[edit] Working on Algae Technologies
I've started an Algae Technology article--one topic. Many more topics are needed.
- Thank you for your contribution. Once I have the wiki software squared away, I'll spend some time on what you're doing. ~Alex T. 02:14, 19 October 2005 (MDT)
[edit] Functionality
I'm spending most of my time recently adding functionality to the wiki. Today, I spent all night making sure the RSS looked pretty while I reorganizing this page. I'd love to do research, but functionality comes first. ~Alex T. 02:14, 19 October 2005 (MDT)
[edit] Ethical Public Domain
Alex, Thank you for sharing your important work! I learned of you from Lucas Gonzalez Santa Cruz. [|He shared your chat] at our [|Global Villages] working group, which I invite you to join. I've also set up a page for [for algae] at our wiki.
Please consider placing your wiki in the [Ethical Public Domain]. That way we can share your content without restriction. ([Here's how to do that]). Currently, the lower left hand corner states that your wiki is under a Creative Commons license, which is a form of copyright, and requires the tracking and managing of copyrights. I would be happy to talk with you regarding these and other issues. --AndriusKulikauskas
[edit] TODO LIST
There are a host of other things I need to do to improve Phyco.org! So many areas that require work, and I could use help in any of these areas. If you want to suggest anything more I need to do, or I've forgotten, feedback is welcome. ~Alex Trujillo 12:57, 16 July 2007 (CDT)
Key: Finished items italicized, items that require development are bold, and comments are unstyled.
- Content
- After updating DynamicPageList, organize wiki's table of contents! This is long overdue
- Update Main Page with new RSS syntax
- MANY PAGES NEED MORE CONTENT, DEVELOPMENT, & RESEARCH!!!
- Pick any article from all pages and develop it!
- Get rid of double redirects
- Categorize uncategorized pages
- This list of wanted pages is HUGE! Solve with redirects to articles or sections of articles, or write new content.
- The Terminology page is pitiful, and needs a host of simple and complex terms; an entry could easily just be a link to the article that covers it, or a section of that article.
- Carbon article including a Carbon Balance section for the Alternative Fuels article.
- Update Phyco.org:License.
- Versions in other languages (i.e. Spanish).
- Specific Pages:
- We need some Carbon pages; one to deal with the effects of carbon on the environment and the carbon cycle, and another to do with carbon within algal metabolism.
- We also need a photosynthesis primer, to go with our Physics of Light Brief
- Additions to our Applications pages are necessary
- Include a link from the Main Page to this talk page.
- Software
- Base Software Update
- Update to MediaWiki 1.10
- Update to MediaWiki 1.12
- Extensions
- Look for updates on all extensions - Update Request: 08/05/02
- Add a bug tracker / tasks extension, specifically, for this TODO LIST section.
- Modify RSS feed extension to display:
- External Link icon, so people know to click on the item for the extended post
- Author, so my informal tone isn't confusing, and also, so others can post to the news blog in the future
- No item numbers; work on feed formatting
- Update/change out Google Maps extension so points can be clicked
- Quotations
- RESTORE & UPDATE THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDITIONS OF PHYCO.ORG!!! This is also rather overdue, and I feel that a lot of people have lost faith in this site since the server move of February this year.
- Cosmetics:
- Add the Phyco.org Logo, move Content Actions section to the top, add icons to Content Actions.
I need to do even more things to improve this wiki! I declare that we need a blog system! I will endeavor to make this a fully functional, newsworthy site, and the template I will use for this will be DailyTech, one of my most favorite news sites. ~Alex Trujillo 20:02, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
- I'm still considering the news blog functionality. The reason it wasn't implemented before was due to the immature state of MediaWiki extensions that would facilitate that development at that time. Things have, fortunately, changed for the better since then. The following extension list will be evaluated soon. ~Alex Trujillo 23:37, 2 May 2008 (CDT)
The main page will then be organized as follows:
| Short Description (w/ Longer Description)
|
| Featured news
| Blog & Article Activity
|
| Site Main Index
|
| Mailing List
| Forum
|
[edit] Category Contents
Main Page would be included in the top level category Contents. --Mac 05:03, 10 July 2008 (CDT)
